MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANT OVERVIEW
Reporting into the North East Management Accounts Hub Manager, the role purpose is to maintain and carry out the management accounts function for a number of Trinity Mirror regional newspaper businesses and provide detailed management information for the management team within those businesses, core responsibilities will include:
• Preparation of accurate monthly Management accounts and KPI’s.
• Attending cost and budget review meetings with department heads.
• Preparation of the annual budgets and quarterly re forecasts.
• Preparation of our quarterly and year end financial statements, including obtaining inter company agreements.
• Other ad hoc reporting as required by the changing demands of the business.
• Ensuring balance sheet reconciliation are performed and queries are resolved in a timely manner.
• Endorse the importance of internal controls to ensure that accuracy and quality are built in to all processes.
• Lead on continuous improvement initiatives whilst ensuring effective controls and procedures are in place.
• Benchmarking against the businesses to drive performance improvements.
• Management of trainees, including PDR’s, coaching and mentoring.
• Lead and participate in projects as empowered / directed by the Finance Director.

The Claims Solutions department in Newcastle undertakes a variety of work including casualty (Employer's liability and Public liability) and motor injury claims. We have a significant client base and receive instructions from a range of insurers, corporate clients and government departments.

The overall purpose of this role is to assist in providing an efficient, professional and high quality service to our clients, managing a case load of predominantly EL and PL casualty cases with a value up to £50,000. A knowledge of other claim types would be an advantage but is not necessary.

The Role

• This is a permanent role within our Casualty team.
• The purpose of this role is to run a case load of predominantly EL and PL casualty claims with a value up to £50,000.
• Day to day responsibilities will include:
• Running a varied case load of pre- litigated and litigated work with the appropriate levels of supervision. These will include cases where liability is disputed.
• Achieve a minimum budgeted annual target of 1440 chargeable hours per year.
• Hit, maintain and apply a consistent approach to all individual targets of financial performance, realisation rates, settlement rate and average claim spend
• Support marketing and business development activity within the team e.g. attending marketing events and client training
• Assume responsibility for quality control and benchmark compliance on own caseload, including accuracy and timeliness of management reporting and information.
• Maintain an awareness of firm's procedures and strategies
• Maintain and develop technical knowledge through attendance at training sessions, reading appropriate publications
• Handling confidential information in line with the firm's data security protocols

The Person

Essential

• A solicitor, legal executive or paralegal with experience of running a case load of EL claims for 1- 2 years is essential.
• A keen interest and enthusiasm for injury work and the demands of our clients
• Able to adopt a commercial perspective to legal issues with a concern for quality of service
• A confident communicator who can communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written form
• Excellent organisational skills and able to effectively prioritise and manage own workload
