The London office for one of the most successful US law firms is looking to recruit a new Practice Development Manager – you will be responsible for the marketing and business development activities of the corporate group. You will lead the implementation of the marketing and business development plan in conjunction with the overall London office business development plan. Duties will include produce top quality compelling pitch books, presentations and responses to formal Requests for Proposals (RFPs), either taking a lead role or working together with the wider international BD team, act as a “professional advisor” to the lead partner on the structure/content of the document and drafts impactful content that is tailored to each opportunity, demonstrating a deep understanding of the practice/market/client, work to develop the BD Coordinator’s pitch preparation skills and supervises the production of credentials statements and ensure follow-up with key lawyers after the pitch, work with the BD Coordinator, ensures that all necessary practice materials exist and are maintained this includes experience lists, practice profiles, tout sheets and other relevant content for the Firm’s proposal pilot database. Additionally you will be responsible for marketing communication duties such as to work with the BD Coordinator and London Public Relations (PR) team, prepare responses to legal directories, ensure content is as comprehensive and impactful as possible to maximize potential rankings for assigned practice groups, work with the PR Manager, produce material for practice related award submissions and to work with the Firm’s InterAction team, ensure practice-specific mailing lists are organized in as targeted a way as possible and are current/up to date. On the client development side you will work with the Senior Manager, Business Development and London Practice Development Managers (PDMs), develop strategy for servicing existing clients and securing new clients through practice area-based initiatives, develop and maintains and in-depth knowledge of and acts as firm resource regarding: practice group expertise, individual lawyer expertise, client base, firm experience, industry/trade group organizations, legal, industry and business trends and practice-specific media, stay abreast of developments and trends in the practice group(s) and related markets - knowledge is required on a local, regional and global basis. With regard to strategic planning and management you develop and implement specific practice area marketing and business development plans to include client targeting programs, client relationship management, strategic use of hospitality and thought leadership, as well as PR/media to continue to build the firm’s name recognition – this will predominantly relates to the local and European market, but with natural overlaps with other parts of the firm’s wider global network, contribute to the development and implementation of the overall London office business development strategy, provide forecasts and anticipated annual budget requirements for the full range of business development and marketing activities relating to each assigned practice area, supervises and develops assigned BD Coordinators to ensure balanced responsibilities, setting objectives and performance goals, ensuring engaging and meaningful professional development opportunities and accountabilities with an emphasis on a best practices approach and actively encourage internal communication within the department and /or practices and across the various groups within the office. You will also be asked to organise events and help raise the firm’s profile by determining which key outside organizations and conferences to participate in and/or sponsor, as well as topics firm hosted seminars, conferences and webex presentations, works with partners to produce associated presentation materials and ensures, together with the London PR Manager, that media opportunities are maximized and help identify public relations and publicity opportunities for assigned practice areas and individual lawyers within them as appropriate. Candidates need to be degree educated, preferably from a marketing related field, Masters will be advantageous. Work wise candidates require a knowledge of core marketing principals including internal communications, public relations, seminar/event planning, branding, market research, competitive intelligence, credentials and RFP response preparation, be able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills necessary for effective management, have well developed and professional interpersonal skills, the ability to proofread and ensure accurate pitches, presentations, database entries and other work products, have strong analytical skills needed for all primary duties of position, including comprehending and communicating data and have advanced knowledge of PC applications, including the entire suite of MS Office applications (MicroSoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Candidates need to have a minimum of 7 years relevant experience, ideally from the legal field.
