THE ROLE
A legal adviser is sought to provide legal services, handling a variety of matters and to protect and promote the interests of the company in legal matters relating to its business
You will need:
· Knowledge and understanding of areas of law and regulation relevant to the Group Investments part of the businesses, specifically those areas that are relevant to the management of investments in a life and pensions company, (including IMAs, ISDAs, MIFID, UCITS, distribution and platform agreements, AIFMD, contract law and other financial services law and regulations) but preferably also including other commercial areas of law (e.g. IT / IP, data protection, trusts, agency, funds, reassurance, outsourcing, supply of goods and services)
· Undertake and provide legal services, with no or limited supervision, in relation to commercial and technical matters in a timely manner
· Identify legal issues and suggest and coordinate implementation of solutions
· Contribute to and assist with management of team and departmental precedents and knowhow, and review precedents and knowhow to keep them up to date with legal and regulatory developments and business strategy
· Liaise with business executives and internal stakeholders to obtain input on relevant issues and promote strong and positive working relationships
· Instruct and manage outside counsel (including costs) where required
· Keep up to date with legal and regulatory developments
· Contribute to team and departmental initiatives to improve operation of Group Legal and/or its perception by the wider business community
ABOUT YOU
Essential:
· Qualifications – Fully qualified lawyer (either a solicitor or barrister) with relevant experience
· Skills – Ability to apply commerciality to business decisions
· Knowledge and experience – technical knowledge of regulatory environment, and knowledge and understanding of law and regulations and specifically those areas that are relevant to the management of investments in a life and pensions company, (including IMAs, ISDAs, MIFID, UCITS, distribution and platform agreements, AIFMD, contract law and other financial services law and regulations)
Desirable:
· Qualifications – further relevant legal or industry qualifications
· Experience – knowledge and understanding of other commercial areas of law (e.g. IT / IP, data protection, trusts, succession, claim and title, agency, financial promotion, funds, reassurance, outsourcing, supply of goods and services)
