Required skills and background
Minimum 3 years experience in a patching role Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 2008/R2, 2012. Microsoft Server product sets, including System Center 2012 products. eg MS SCCM. Windows Networking (DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP). Microsoft System Center Products. Microsoft Windows Update Services. HP ProLiant Rack and BladeSystem hardware as well as remote management and monitoring. HP Server Hardware (Rack and BladeSystems) Enterprise Class storage solutions (SAN, NAS, DAS: HP/NetApp). Windows Update Services Windows core networking technologies (DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP).
It would be desirable if the candidate also possessed hands-on experience in one or more of the following technologies:
Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010, SQL Server 2005/2008. VMware ESX Server 4/vSphere 5 Symantec Enterprise Vault and Symantec CA/DA, Symantec NetBackup v6+, HP Systems Insight Manager and Sophos AntiVirus. Storage administration/Management (HP, NetApp) Microsoft Office SharePoint Server or Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server
Role and responsibilities:
The Windows Engineer position is envisaged to join a new dedicated team tasked with the responsibility of developing and implementing a software update mechanism for the infrastructure of this global hedge fund, as well as the supporting processes, procedures and policies. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the business and the broader Wintel engineering function to gather requirements and establish and engineer the framework to support software update processes required to facilitate the ongoing software update process for the Wintel Infrastructure. This will include the definition of the patching policies, and procedures, together with the design, engineering and implementation of the technology to facilitate that. Beyond this, the new team will be responsible for executing against the new process/procedure to ensure the global Wintel infrastructure is maintained at the expected software revision, in line with the defined policy.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, a self-starter, motivated and positive thinking. The primary responsibilities of the role are to engineer an end to end patching process for the Windows server estate and to perform patch maintenance off the Wintel server estate, outside of business hours, and to proactively manage and remediate the Wintel environment. In addition to this, the candidate will be responsible for planning, designing, engineering, testing and implementing the patching framework.
The ideal candidate would have good solid experience in a similar role, as well as advanced understanding of the Windows Server 2003, 2008 & 2012 family of server products, including core aspects of troubleshooting, performance, and network monitoring, together with general server administration. This includes all core server components.
