Firmware engineer required by aap3 to join our prestigious client, a global leader in electronics and IT, within the defence industry based in Basildon. The successful candidate will need to be SC cleared, but this allows them to work on highly skilled projects in the design of complex FPGAs. Occasional work travel opportunity throughout the UK and Italy
The successful candidate will:
Hold a degree/HND/HNC in engineering or related fields. Competency with VHDL based FPDA design and verification techniques

Experience with:
o FPGA development tools
o Writing and creating firmware requirements
o Debugging and testing firmware designs
Awareness of:

o Model driven engineering tools
o High speed interface design and integration
o Firmware development to RTCA DO-254
Key responsibilities within the role are:
Designing and carrying out FPGA design work Analysing system level documents and deriving information based on requirements Designing complex FPGA devices using the latest technology Attending peer based firmware assessments

Responsibilities:

Taking supplied Hardware requirements and completing detailed design for Analogue, Digital and Power applications through to production.

Schematics capture and Component selection.

· PCB requirements capture and generation of Gerber files and detailed manufacturing packs.

· Generating Hardware documentation design pack for submission to TUV.

· Supporting V&V and product testing activities including functional, environmental and EMC tests.

· Supporting Design Reviews/FMEA as appropriate.

· Acting as Mentor to more Junior Engineers.



· A good degree in a relevant Engineering Subject.

· Strong Hardware Design Experience in a Senior Capacity within industry. 5yrs+ experience. Proven experience in Hardware Design for safety related equipment and PLCs is highly desirable.

· A good team worker capable of contributing positively to multidisciplinary design teams.

· A TUV qualification as a Functional Safety Engineer would be an advantage.

· Experience of DX Designer / Expedition is highly desirable

You will be an Engineer with a design mind-set able to make working prototypes of interactive products, thriving on blending many crafts to create holistic experiences. A passion for engineering, design and design thinking as well as the desire to work in a multi-discipline, team-oriented environment is required. Qualified applicants will have completed undergraduate or graduate degrees in one of Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Design and have professional experience in hardware and product development. The individual needs to be able to design and innovate with electronics, build functional prototypes on different levels, while reaching out to collaborate and integrate with all of the other disciplines, developing products that enable new experiences. You are a Maker and can build electronic prototypes from working with kits such as Arduino or MBed, to soldering up your own circuits, to designing customs PCBs in packages such as Altium.
