Our Claims Solutions Group advises insurers, self insured and corporate clients in their defence of claims relating to fatal accidents, catastrophic injuries, rehabilitation, employer liability, product liability, sports injuries, aviation injuries, occupational stress, repetitive strain, occupational cancers, new diseases, noise- induced hearing loss, safety, health and environment and severe road traffic accidents. Services cover both high value specialist claims and smaller, less complex ones. In addition to this, the team provides advice on fraudulent claims and coverage disputes.

The Role

• To provide a timely professional and high quality service to clients in the management of a high volume caseload.

• Handle a varied case load of pre litigated and litigated motor work covering cases up to £25,000.00 with appropriate levels of supervision. These will include cases where liability is disputed with some credit hire and costs disputes

• Analysis of evidence and setting case strategies encompassing both technical and commercial considerations, obtaining and drafting pleadings for approval, witness statements, conducting (telephone) negotiation of claims, and preparing detailed statements of valuation of claims.

• To demonstrate sound file management – to include compliance with DAC Beachcroft protocols and any client protocols as required; consistent and accurate billing and credit control; management of WIP and file closures; updating Management Information

• Aim to achieve a minimum budgeted annual target of 1440 chargeable hours per year

• To hit, maintain and apply a consistent approach to all individual targets of financial performance, realisation rates, settlement rate and average claim spend

• Maintain an awareness of firm procedures and strategies

• Assume responsibility for quality control and benchmark compliance on own caseload, including accuracy and timeliness of management reporting and information

The Person

The Glasgow Claims Solutions team are looking to recruit a Paralegal who has experience of dealing with Motor claims (either pre-litigation or litigated). A law degree or equivalent is preferable but not essential. Experience of working in a target driven commercial environment would also be an advantage.

The Role

The Claims Solutions team advises insurers and corporate clients in their defence of claims of all values, types and complexity. Our National team whose clients are a mix of leading names in the insurance industry as well as household name corporates, deal with all aspects of defendant litigation, to include catastrophic injury, motor, casualty, disease, product and health and safety. Increasingly, the team is getting involved in pre-emptive advice on these issues as well as dispute resolution.

The Role

• Working within our Disease Unit your caseload will primarily consist of asbestos related disease claims both pre-litigated and litigated. We will also be looking for the candidate to work on a broader profile of disease related cases including noise induced hearing loss, work related upper limb conditions and hand/arm vibration syndrome
• The role will also involve assisting more senior solicitors on more complex and higher value cases.

The Role

The role will be based within the Regulatory team in our Glasgow office.
Day to day responsibilities will include:

• Assisting the Regulatory partner in the handling/running of his largely SHE( Safety , Health and Environment) and Motor Prosecution caseload with some supervision as well as handling cases in your own right
• Work may include managing a range of regulatory prosecutions for a variety of clients on a variety of issues
• Being the point of contact for the client in the day to day management of cases and when the principal fee earner is unavailable
• Instructing experts and collating accompanying documents
• Attendance at Court – experience of advocacy in court is therefore preferred
• Attendance at police station and HSE interviews , preparing clients for these and advising on the preparation of documentation ahead of interview
• Reviewing medical records and preparing chronologies.
• Investigating and precognoscing witnesses
• Drafting letters and reports to clients
• Negotiating with Crown

You will be working in a small team which forms part of a larger civil team of focused solicitors and other paralegals working for a mixture of household name insurer clients and self Insured companies who instruct us directly.

You will handle a varied workload in accordance with client protocols and with an appropriate level of supervision. You will be expected to act as a point of contact for clients, demonstrating a level of knowledge and skill commensurate with experience.

You will be expected to demonstrate sound file management – to include compliance with DAC Beachcroft protocols and, as above, any client protocols as required; you will be expected to achieve consistent and accurate time recording of 1440 chargeable hours per annum and appropriate billing and credit control management, administration of WIP and file closures and accurate Management Information recording. The Person

• An experienced and knowledgeable regulatory solicitor with at least 2 years post qualifying experience gained within a commercially focused environment. The ideal candidate will have significant previous experience in this area of work as well as advocacy skills. Additionally you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of "white collar crime" with experience in either prosecuting or defending cases relating to such crime being preferable
• You will have excellent client relationship skills and will be able to deal confidently and professionally with a range of clients and colleagues on day to day issues. You will be able to demonstrate a reasonable level of self-sufficiency, combined with an awareness of the boundaries of your own competence/authority.
• You will have excellent legal drafting, analytical and negotiating skills
