The company is currently recruiting for a Geotechnical Engineer with demonstrable experience for their South Wales office.

Successful candidates would be working closely with clients to define needs and solutions from conception to conclusion including consultation from an early stage in the projects, advising clients on effective ground risk management and developing a variety of efficient ground engineering solutions.
The company has an established capability delivering a diverse range of projects within a variety of market sectors, including civil engineering and building structures, site development, water, structures and energy and waste sectors, both within and outside the South Wales and West region. Staff therefore have opportunities to benefit from a broad range of opportunities across a range of projects and locations.

At the current time within the Geotechnics group the company is working on detailed geotechnical design for earthworks and structures for 3 major highways schemes which are either due to start construction within the next few months or currently on site. They also have numerous highways, rail, water, waste and buildings structures related projects for which geotechnical assessments, ground investigation and geotechnical design work are required.

The successful candidate will perform the following roles:

Geotechnical design for foundations, retaining structures, and earthworks, including use of Eurocode 7
Preparation of geotechnical specifications, including earthworks and foundations, ideally also with construction supervision experience
Planning and management of ground investigations, including scoping and preparing specifications and contract documentation, supervision and interpretation
Logging of soil and rock to BS5930/Eurocode 7
Supervising and co-ordinating the work of others and co-ordinating with engineers of other disciplines
Managing project teams to ensure production of deliverables to agreed timelines and within budget, providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team

You will be required to have the following skills:

Good general geotechnical design skills and the ability to demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of geotechnical engineering and design principles
Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
Excellent report writing and written and verbal communication skills
Appreciation of contaminated land/waste management issues would also be an advantage
Academic requirements include a minimum of a BEng in Civil Engineering or a BSc in Geological Sciences ideally supplemented with an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology
Candidates should be Professionally Chartered or close to achieving Professional Chartership
