The Team:

Our Professional & Commercial Risk team in Newport is the only specialist professional indemnity team in Wales. The team advise insurers and professionals when faced with the threat of a negligence claim, acting on numerous high value and sensitive claims for clients throughout the UK including a number of major London Market clients. The Newport team specialise in defending Solicitor negligence claims and are particularly experienced in the deployment of alternative dispute resolution techniques, including mediation and arbitration.

The Newport team consists of: 1 Partner, 1 Associate and 3 Solicitors. As such, this is an excellent opportunity to join a market leading and growing team with a strong emphasis on developing and cultivating key client relationships from day one.

The Role

Specific responsibilities include but are not restricted to:
• Handle a mixed workload of professional negligence claims in accordance with client protocols and with an appropriate level of supervision.
• Act as a key point of contact for clients, demonstrating a level of knowledge and skill commensurate with experience. .
• Aim to achieve a minimum budgeted annual target of [contact details removed] for bonus purposes) chargeable hours per year.
• Support marketing and business development activity within the team e.g. attending marketing events and client training.
• Build an awareness of the Firm's other services. Build effective internal and external networks.
• Maintain an awareness of the firm's strategies and plans.
• Maintain and develop technical knowledge through attendance at training sessions, reading appropriate publications and exceeding Law Society CPD requirements.
• Exercise full compliance with DAC Beachcroft protocols on billing and credit control and demonstrate a high level of financial management in respect of own files.

The Person
• Circa 1 - 5 PQE Solicitor with relevant professional indemnity experience. Ideally this will come from a defendant background but we will consider candidates with claimant experience.
• Any prior experience of handling claims against Accountants, Brokers, IFA's, Surveyors or the 'emerging' professions (design / IT / media) would be highly desirable.
• Excellent relationship and client handling skills. Ability to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day to day issues. Able to demonstrate a reasonable level of self-sufficiency, combined with an awareness of the boundaries of own competence/authority.
• An ability to adopt a commercial perspective rather than an ‘academic’ approach to legal issues.
• Change oriented with a positive, flexible approach towards the implementation of new initiatives.
• Team oriented and collegiate with a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team.

Provide assistance in the development and maintenance of risk issues and maintenance of products, to meet the strategic and commercial needs of the Consumer Finance businesses ensuring that the interests of the Group are protected.
This role can be based at either of our client's locations of Chester, London or Cardiff and therefore this role would be suited to a senior lawyer within the Asset Financial legal team.

Specific knowledge required:

A proactive and motivated individual who is able to address legal issues to ensure legal effective and compliant delivery of contractual arrangements, able to work with and alongside colleagues within various departments of the Consumer Finance Sector business.

Must possess strong commercial legal credentials and a solid knowledge and experience in contractual matters. In-depth knowledge of The Consumer Credit Act and associated regulations made under the Act (advantageous). A current legal practising certificate or equivalent qualification is required. In addition candidates with a strong background within consumer credit will also be considered in the event that they do not possess motor finance background. Financial services with FSA and FCA expertise is also required.
