The Director of Engineering Program Management is responsible for insuring that Clientrsquos engineering programs deliver on their roadmaps, on time, within budget, and with quality.
This is the lead program management position in the engineering organization and is responsible for working across all engineering teams and associated business team to insure that successful program delivery occurs.
This role is also responsible for leading a team of program managers.
The director will recruit and develop a top-notch team of strong program managers.
The director will establish and drive program management policy, process, and metrics that program managers will use to govern individual programs.
The director will insure that there is a high degree of collaboration and dependency management across programs so that all milestones and budgets can be delivered.
The director will maintain early warning systems and intervene and escalate issues in any program that is heading off course.
The director will lead and run a monthly program review process to drive transparency and accountability across the organization.
As process leader for the organization, the director will champion, measure, and drive compliance with the organizationsrsquo agile methodology, engineering practices, and quality standards.
The director will serve as the lead agile champion for the organization and make sure adequate training, coaching, and development is available to the organization.
All scrum masters will report up into this director.
This team will manage the tool sets used to drive agile process and collaboration in the organization.
The Director will lead and drive key organizational initiatives in support of the engineering organization as a whole.
Initiatives include the Engineering Career Model Framework, College Hiring Program, Future State Organization model, FTE goal management and talent assessment processes, Contractor and Vendor management frameworks, International program governance, Engineering Town Halls, etchellip A team of 30 program managers, scrum masters, and program management office resources will report to this person.
This is a challenging role with many touchpoints with senior executive management in both the technology organization and business units at Scholastic.
The position requires an individual with strong communication skills, a driver of action, attention to details, and team motivation skills.
Core Responsibilities Responsible primarily for the delivery of all engineering roadmaps and commitments Ensures consistency in management execution across the portfolio of programs Standardizes processes for managing schedule, scope, risks, and dependencies Interfaces with lines of businesses to ensure expectations are met and quality of delivery is smooth and efficient Maintains accountability for the overall health of programs across financial, engineering best practices, quality, and Agile delivery spectrums Grows program managers and scrum masters in accordance with the company career model framework.
Staffs programs effectively as needs arise Responsible for supporting organizational initiatives as part of overall continuous improvement for the technology organization Provides senior level executive communications on status of programs and key risksmitigation plans Resolves issues and blockers for engineering programs and escalates to the SVP of Engineering as needed Qualifications Skills 12+ year of experience At minimum a BS degree in computer science or other relevant technology fields Expert experience in Program Management concepts and strategy Strong experience in Agile software delivery Experience working with multiple business groups to balance expectations Knowledge of technical software development and quality engineering concepts A track record of successfully delivering programs in a large matrixed organization Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong interpersonal skills Detail oriented and organized
