Description
In the role of In-House Litigation Counsel you will be required to provide clear, concise and commercially focused legal advice in relation to complex contentious and potentially contentious matters affecting the Group.
Your main responsibilities will involve:
- Supporting the Senior Counsel in managing and conducting a wide range of disputes on behalf of the Group across multiple business divisions, both in the UK and internationally
- Including advising the business on the legal merits of its position, advising on strategy and, where appropriate, instructing and managing external counsel
- Developing an open and effective relationship with colleagues and internal clients
- Acquiring knowledge of the main legal issues and matters being dealt with by the business
- Engaging with the Group's Insurable Risk function to manage insurance-related litigation
- Supporting the provision of training to the Group Legal function and the development of the legal skills necessary to provide the Group with expert capability in dispute management, avoidance and resolution, thereby providing significant added value to the Group
- Producing guidance notes/materials that are relevant to the Legal function and assisting with the development of company-wide dispute resolution processes and procedures to mitigate legal risks to the Group
Profile
Suitable candidates for the In-House Litigation Counsel will have the following qualifications / experience:
- Qualified solicitor in England and Wales
- At least three years of commercial dispute resolution experience as a qualified lawyer either at a well-regarded law firm or leading corporate
- Significant experience in the conduct (and management) of litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution methods (including mediation), both in the UK and internationally
- Technical excellence and experience of a broad range of commercial disputes (contractual, tortious and regulatory), as well as experience relating to jurisdiction issues
- Working independently and take responsibility for disputes which may have reputational significance to the Group and/or are of high financial value
