ROLE PROFILE:
The Immigration Counsel will manage multiple immigration legal cases and projects across all areas of Granite's global business. The position will work closely with Granite's corporate attorneys and in house global immigration team on a wide range of immigration law and global mobility related matters and will support Granite's privacy and compliance program in accordance with global laws and regulations as well as company policies, standards and best practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Management of external legal counsel globally and procuring external legal advice;
- Managing day-to-day global stakeholder relationship and delivery of bespoke legal immigration advice;
- Use subject matter expertise to oversee and coordinate large and complex immigration projects and situations;
- Liaise with other in house departments (e.g. tax and HR) to communicate changes which impact immigration and work to ensure sharing of knowledge and information;
- Identifying and analyzing legal matters and proposing appropriate strategies and risk mitigation;
- Providing proactive risk management advice and serve as a point of escalation for emergent and unusual immigration situations;
- Responsibility for the review and management of country compliance quota applications and all immigration associated processes;
- Providing training to in house immigration team;
- Ensuring company knowledge bank/ database is accurate and up to date;
- Assist with other legal matters and cases as required;
- Coaching members of the immigration team and hands on involvement in case working, document preparation where required;
- Leverage professional expertise and relationships to contribute to strategy and drive business results.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to manage own caseload and carry out tasks independently with minimal oversight;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Ability to analyze legal documents and clearly and concisely summarize document related issues;
- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion;
- High level of proficiency in all Microsoft packages with advanced proficiency in MS Word, including document management/ redlining expertise;
- Some travel required;
- English proficiency required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Law degree or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of three years of legal experience in a fast paced environment.
