Thames Academy

Part-Time, Company Secretary

Dartford, Kent

Salary: £32,000 per annum (pro-rata)

An Exciting Opportunity in a New Training Organisation

Based in Dartford, Kent, the Thames Skills Academy (TSA) is a recently established Group Training Association providing high quality training that meets employers’ specific needs. The TSA’s current role is to identify, broker and facilitate comprehensive training solutions to meet the marine and associated skills and competency requirements of commercial vessel operators within the Port of London and the wider Thames Estuary. The organisation is at an early stage of development and this is an opportunity to be involved at an exciting time and to gain experience in building an organisation from the ground up. We seek an experienced individual who is enthusiastic and able to work on their own initiative to fill our part-time Company Secretary role on an initial two-year fixed term contract:

The role currently requires a one-day-a-week commitment and is primarily concerned with fulfilling the statutory role of Company Secretary to the TSA Board. This includes providing support and advice the Chairman and other Members to ensure the smooth functioning of the Board and that in conducting its business, the TSA complies with the provisions of company law and all other relevant legislation and/or regulations. Where the Company Secretary responsibilities allow, the job holder is also required to support the efficient and effective operation of the TSA office and the associated administrative activity.

We’re looking for someone who is committed, efficient, self-motivated and focused on delivering a quality service. You will have a sound knowledge and an in-depth experience of the role of Company Secretary and, ideally, wider general office administration abilities and experience. Extensive experience as a Deputy Company Secretary will also be considered. You will have excellent communication and people skills, attention to detail, and a proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team.

The job holder is not required to have a legal background or detailed legal knowledge, but will, in conjunction with the Chief Executive and/or Chairman, seek such legal opinions and/or advice as and when necessary.

Membership of or qualifications with the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators (ICSA) or equivalent would be preferential.

The package includes 20 days’ annual leave per year (pro-rata), paid overtime (as may be required) and a NEST auto-enrolment pension with a generous employer contribution. The job is based at our Dartford office, with the requirement to attend occasional meetings and events in London and the South East. The successful applicant will have the benefit of a handover from the existing Company Secretary and reach-back support to the Group Company Secretary of one of our founding members.

Whilst being fully supported during your time with the TSA, you’ll be given the opportunity for personal development and to make the role your own, based on your areas of interest and the skills, knowledge and experience you bring.

Interviews will be held at our Dartford office in the first week of June.
