Time commitment: 18-24 days per year

This is a unique opportunity to become one of the first Non Executive Directors of the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) – the new name for the reformed and reconstituted Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Since 2010 alongside major changes to how policing operates in England and Wales, there have also been major reforms to the Police Complaints and Discipline Systems.  As part of this the IPCC has undergone a major expansion to enable it to take on significantly more independent investigations of serious and sensitive matters and to help it ensure that key findings are shared nationwide to help improve policing.

You will as part of your duties work effectively with the Director General to ensure robust governance and financial management; and to set the strategic aims and values of the IOPC.

We are seeking candidates who are able to demonstrate independence, integrity and impartiality with the ability to question, challenge and influence.  We would expect the Senior Independent Director to have clear strengths in leadership and corporate governance.

Amongst the successful candidates we are looking in particular for suitably qualified individuals with a strong track record in finance and audit or in Human Resources or organisational development. Expertise in stakeholder engagement and knowledge of policing and criminal justice may also be an advantage.

This appointment will be for an initial period of three years.
