Chair of Board of Governors

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is Scotland’s national Conservatoire and an international leader in the provision of education from early years to doctoral level in dance, drama, music, production and screen. The breadth of our provision is unique in the UK, encompassing as it does all genres of the performing arts. The Royal Conservatoire is also one of the busiest and most exciting performing arts venues in the UK, and we are a leading research institution. International in outlook, we recruit students from some 50 countries.

The Chair of our Board of Governors, Lord Vallance of Tummel, will retire in December 2016 and we are now seeking his successor, who will have extensive experience of strategic leadership within a significant and complex organisation. S/he will engage effectively with staff, students and other stakeholders, nationally and internationally, and will play a key role in our efforts to enhance our international reputation and to engender support, including philanthropic giving.

Our new Chair will have a strong personal commitment to higher education, the performing arts and to the values of the Royal Conservatoire.

This role is not remunerated, but all reasonable costs associated with its effective discharge will be met. The overall time commitment expected is (indicatively) 4 days per month.

We are committed to equality and diversity and welcome applications from underrepresented groups. For further information, including details of how to apply, please click the apply button.

The closing date for receipt of applications (CV and supporting statement) is 22 January 2016.
