Summary

The Horse Rangers Association (Hampton Court) is a young people’s charity, supporting personal development by teaching the management and riding of horses. In addition, during the term time young riders and vulnerable adults with special needs participate in our Riding for the Disabled lessons during the week.

The Horse Rangers was founded in 1954 by Raymond Gordon, whose vision was to enable young people, who would not otherwise have the opportunity, to learn to look after and ride horses; from early in the charity’s existence this included young people with Special Needs. A uniformed youth organisation, we rely on volunteers to deliver all of our activities.  We are not a riding school; instead we use the horses and ponies to help Rangers in their own personal development.  At the weekends we have over 300 members who are organised into five squadrons, who meet each week to learn how to ride and care for our horses and ponies.  In addition, during the term time young riders and vulnerable adults with special needs participate in our Riding for the Disabled lessons during the week.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees.  The Horse Rangers Association has just celebrating its 60th anniversary, and we are keen to build on our Founder's vision and to extend our reach to those young people who will most benefit from participation in our activities and to continue to improve the quality of the work we are doing.

As the Chairman, you will provide leadership to the Board of Trustees, enabling the Board to fulfil its responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation.   You will ensure that the organisation complies with its governance arrangements, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation.

To apply for the position of Chairman, the ideal candidate will have the following attributes and qualities :

  • Proven track record as a Chairman or working in a Senior Leadership role of an organisation, as the ability to drive and develop the strategic direction of the Horse Rangers Association in the future will be crucial.
  • You will be creative, an excellent communicator and have experience working either in the Charities or Youth Sector.
  • Knowledge of the equestrian world, and an interest in horses is highly desirable.
  • Experience in key stakeholder management, as, due to estate management issues, the ability to build effective working relationships will be key in this role.

Do you have experience in a Senior Leadership role in Business, Youth work and fundraising?  Do you want to make a difference to the lives of young people and share the vision and values of our founder?    Then we look forward to hearing from you.

Due to this post having access to children and/or vulnerable adults, candidates will be required to undertake a Criminal Record Check. The possession of a criminal record will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.
